Lancashire v Shropshire County Match 29/4/2007

The match should also have been against North Wales but unfortunately they were unable to raise a team, so Shropshire hosted the match with Lancashire as contestants.

The day was calm and sunny but not too warm which encouraged some archers to complete personal best scores and some perhaps to relax too much. Overall though it must be said that everybody did their best on the day.

Lancashire won the recurve trophy with both ladies and gents achieving personal best scores. Congratulations to them. (Some fell short of their previous high scores but completed the shoot with the words "will do better next time".)

The compound trophy was won by Lancashire with the two ladies contesting one place on the team with scores of 1300. Emma winning the battle against the newcomer by 17 points. Keep an eye on Deidre Stepto – a new face in Lancashire. The men also kept up with the challenge and finished closely – all in the 1300s.

The longbows won their section although some team members were not happy with their score – again "will do better next time".

All this said thanks go to the archers who took part and congratulations to all – even if you were not included in the final team.

The buffet tea afterwards was warmly welcomed by everyone. Because the shoot took the form of single detail shooting an early finish was achieved and hopefully all got home safe and sound.

It is hoped that this shoot will be Record Status next year and will be hosted in Lancashire – keeping the date to the last weekend in April – i.e. prior to the outdoor summer season being in full swing.

If there is a club who would like to offer their ground and assistance as a field party – possibly 16 targets – let me or the Lancashire Secretary know.
